4 - because, as it was the case with the Insomnia, the last 8th or so was much too long and fussy; only here, it was also pointlessy long. Loved all the rest of it, though.

I vacillated between a 3 and a 4, but in the end I gave it a 4, because overall the story was good.

I really enjoyed it up to the midway point of the novel, but gradually grew disenchanted. I think it's a middling effort.

I loved it for most of it, but just a bit too much cerebral crap in the end.

Sorry Steve, but are you sure Dean Koontz didnt write this?
One of the worst.

I loved the dogan part. If the rest was up to that, I would have given it 5+. But there were other parts I loved - the ka-tet, which I think is King's real forte; then, the whole military line.

I thought it was the military stuff that really put me off, but then I read The Tommyknockers afterward and I had no problem with the military stuff in that story, so it was something in the fabric of the story itself that didn't hit the spot.

I didn't word myself very well in my first post. By saying "I only liked the parts in Jonesy's dogan" what I actually meant were, those were the only bits I enjoyed - not that they were mediocre

I liked this one better than most of the newer King novels. It gets a 4. The end was pretty stupid. I didn't like the duddits crap.
