This one and Regulators are on my I need to get busy and read list. So many books from the early 90's I still have not read.

I remember really enjoying this when it came out and speeding through it (no pun intended). The only disappointment I had was that Tak wasn't more exciting and Collie doesn't get more pages. Still kinda awesome of course. I'll read this again for sure.

Solid four. I liked it, but it's not one of my absolute favorites.

Barring the DT series, it is my favorite Stephen King book

This one gets a 3 from me. As much as everyone elso loves this book, I just flat don't remember much from it. It obviously left little impression on me, so I call that average. (This as oppossed to absolutely hating The Regulators which is one of only 2 or 3 that will get a 1 from me.) Bottom line is I need to reread this book. But, alas, I have only so much of my reading time that I am willing to spend on rereading.

The beginning was terrific. After that it became a horrible dredge of nonsense. What's Steve trying to say about God and religion and slaves and how bad americans are? Is the boy Jesus? Are drugs bad?
It felt very preachy and very "steve just finished rehab" feel to it.
Surprisingly the Mick Garris movie wasn't too bad.
The beginning was terriffic.

5. For me, it was a very enjoyable read. mikeC, I loved the characters in Desperation. They are definitely a super awesome set of characters.

Bingo. I really need to read this again. I recall when I finished thinking "Wow, that's right up there with The Stand." This story absolutely rocks.

Welllllll, I'd go into The Regulators with the understanding that it is nothing like Desperation. IMO, The Regulators is just as bad as Desperation is good.

IMO, The Regulators is just as bad as Desperation is good.
Now that you said that I'm beginning to think it may have been the big idea... the characters or events don't really mirror each other or anything else, so the tricks with the names is only irritating, but maybe the comparative merits of both books do what their other components failed to do? Because the Regulators really are as bad as Desperation is good; well, no, maybe Desperation is a little better than that... so even that parallel would run somewhat askew...

The poll has closed. Desperation has earned a FAS (final average score) of 3.957746479 or 79.15%, placing 3rd in this bracket. It will not be moving on to Round 2. In 2009, Desperation also placed 3rd with a FAS of 3.972602740, so it lost 0.014856261 (-0.37%) this time.

I feel your pain, Jean ol' buddy. What's worse, it didn't get enough points to get into the six wildcard slots. That number to beat is still 4.063291139.

Fans of Desperation, next year get a grassroots movement going to get the book into the top-two spot in its bracket :)

Those four twos and ones sure didn't help. Not that I'm blaming anyone who gave those marks, it's their right. They would've been offset by more fives, yet this ranked as a 4 with thirty fours.
