This was a really good book and only outdone by On Writing. I gave it a 4.

Only so-so. Unlike Sam, I am very disappointed every time I see any King nonfiction, written or spoken. Disappointed is the wrong word, though, because if he does so well what he is born to do - namely, write fiction - what more can bears ask for?

Sure; when it comes to commentary, King is a very good novelist. Still, I continually relish them because, dammit, I like the guy. This book still means a lot to me; I actually admire it more than On Writing. Here, I give it a 4.

I gave it a 4. I learned a lot about the horror genre from this book. It introduced me to the presence of Arkham House publishing (which King mentioned a few times in there). I can credit that with promptimg me to start collecting Arkham Hose books, and my collection of those rivals my King collection. A lot of the books on my shelf are due to King's mentioning them in Danse Macabre.

5 - It's like hanging out at a barbeque, tossing back a few brewskis, and yakking about horror with a very knowledgeable friend.

Brice, is that you again with the other 5? :couple:

I gave it a 2. There were some seriously interesting bits, but they were few and far between. A bit of a disappointment for me.

It wasn't, but I am one of them now. I just love this book. I read it when I was pretty young and went through his lists at the end of the book and found every book and film I could. I wish he'd really update this to cover the time since then.

I won't argue with anyone who didn't like this, but, seeing that there's many who've never read it: you ought to give it a try.

I conversely will argue with those who didn't like it until they give up and agree to like it. I will also argue with those who haven't read it until they do...and like it. It's not unlikely even that I'll argue with those who did like it until you like it more.

I tried reading it many moons ago. I just got the audio edition, sucks its not read by SK but here's hoping it's easier to get through this time.

I still need to read this one! I don't know why I haven't, since I'm sure I'll really enjoy it.

So glad to see more 5s for this one. I agree, he should publish an updated version. I would eat it with a spork.

Well, at least it got a little more exposure.
