I gave it a 4. I liked it, it was good, but it didn't blow me away.

What would be interesting is going back and comparing my votes from last year with this year's. :orely:

Well... I love it becouse it was really scary... the part of the dead woman... uuuu... now I will not sleep... :cry:
But... That means I can say that I hated it becouse I could not sleep for like a week...

This is a definite five for me. It's the first King book I ever read, it scared the crap out of me (I was thirteen) and it hooked me on King for the rest of my life. Can't give a higher recommendation than that!

I read the Shining while in college - read it in one late night reading! Absolutely loved it!

The Shining is a King classic. I loved it, and gave it a five. :)

5 from me as well. King's best gift is being able to get into the mind of his characters. The mind of Jack Torrence (and his descent into insanity) is fascinating. And the book is truly scary.

The Shining is a classic. Neither movie does it justice. I always think of Jack smelling as if mold were growing inside him ,unable to be washed off or out of his lungs.From reading those old newspaper articles all day every day in the basement - gross but poignant. Oh ,eeeee-ick
