Well, the big night is almost upon us. Since we all love movies here, I thought it might be fun for us to play a little game come Oscar night.

My family and I always try to predict who will win each category. Even if you have no clue and couldn't care less who wins in the animated short film category, just guess anyway.

Remember, this is not about what you want to win. It's what you think is going to win. Although this is a contest, I have nothing to give you but my respect and a high-five.

I hope everybody enjoyed the show. I thought it was pretty boring. I know that's kind of what people always say about the show. I still enjoyed it, but I think the lack of surprises in the big categories was a problem. There was no suspense.

Also, as the night went on, it became clear that Hurt Locker was going to take best picture and Bigelow for best director.

The only surprises came in some of the other awards. I was surprised White Ribbon didn't win and I was also surprised with both screenplay awards. Neither went to the favorite.

I also thought Baldwin and Martin did a nice job. I've never been a big Steve Martin fan, but I thought they both had great chemistry together. I just wish they were used more.

My other problem with Oscar night is something I've always hated. I think Oscar night should be a celebration of all films from that year, not just the ones that are nominated. Last year they did a nice job incorporating this with montages. It was missing this year, and I think that's too bad.

Anyway, I still enjoyed the show. I hope everybody else did too.

Yay

I thought the show last night was really good. There really wasn't any surprise concerning the big categories, but there were some in the smaller ones. I was shocked that The White Ribbon didn't win. I thought for sure that would get it. And the screenplays also surprised me. And Avatar winning cinematography?!

Heather, have you seen El Secreto de sus Ojos? I really love Haneke's works but my favorite was this.
Second that. <_<

Because pointing a camera at a bluescreen is deserving of an award, over actually photographing actual things.

I didn't understand how Avatar could win best cinematography. Sure, there's some cinematography going on in the film, but there's a lot of CG too. I was really surprised by that.
